Sometimes in the cold, dark days of winter, it’s easy to forget about the little things that can lift our spirits and brighten up our days. Lets try to recognize and enjoy the little things as we brave the last of this cold winter. To help you pick up on them, here are some examples of what little things may make you feel a little warmer and happier!

  1. A smile from a total stranger in a setting that’s less than favorable like the DMV, or in a long checkout line. Seeing someone positive and friendly in a setting like that really makes you rethink your own attitude.
  2. A small gesture of kindness. Maybe a boyfriend or husband hands you the remote for once. Now that’s love.
  3. A breather. Taking just a few minutes to breathe deeply. Not only is this a mood booster, but it can also make a big difference in your daily performance. Give it a try.
  4. A hug that lasts just a little bit longer than usual. There’s something so personal and comforting about those few extra seconds of an embrace that makes you feel supported.
  5. A small victory! Was that you who fixed the (fill in the bank). Yeah it was! All by yourself? That’s right! Pat yourself on the back every once in a while or do a little “Go Me!” dance. You deserve that.
  6. A small mix up in your routine. Take 20 or 30 minutes and do something creative. This can really relieve a lot of tension and get the other half of your brain engaged. It feels good! Try it out.
  7. A pretty sunrise or sunset on the way to, or from work. A nice start or finish to your day. The world is full of beautiful things; it’s up to us to notice and appreciate them.
  8. An extra 30 minutes of sleep in the morning. You’ll wake up feeling so rested and ready to start the day. Oh, it’s a good day when this happens!
  9. A favorite song on the radio. Turn it up, sing your heart out or do a little dance! Let yourself have those 3-5 minutes of a song that you really like.
  10. A long, hot shower. Talk about relaxing.
  11. A windfall! Finding money in your pocket/purse that you forgot about. If this doesn’t make our day even a little bit better, then I don’t know what will.
  12. A shirt or pants that came straight from the dryer. The feeling is so warm and cozy, I’m smiling just thinking about it!
  13. An itch you can actually reach. I mean, how often does that happen huh?
  14. A new recipe attempt, and it turns out perfectly. So rewarding! Soak it up and enjoy that moment. Maybe take a picture. #Instagram it? Go right ahead.
  15. Getting unexpected gratitude for doing something small but nice for someone else. Seeing the other person so happy and grateful for your small, kind act makes you feel good about you and about people in general.
