Relationships can be tough when you’re going through infertility. Nobody seems to know what you’re going through and if they do, it is hard for them to understand. You might be unsure how the people closest to you might react to the issues you’re having, if you do share.  You may go through a period where you feel isolated because you have not been able to or wanted to share your feelings with anyone yet. These feelings can be made worse when you look around wherever you are and all you see is babies or pregnancies. Even if you have confided in someone, thoughts like “what’s wrong with me?” might be running through your mind. You need some support!

If you have shared with your friends, family, etc., you are probably getting a lot of tips (bad and good). “Just relax”, “you can always adopt”, “don’t stress”, “stop trying and it will happen” are phrases you will most certainly hear as others feel the need to share with you their tips on trying for a baby. Others close to you might vow to themselves to never bring it up in conversation so they don’t upset you. It is up to you to decide what you want to share and with whom.

It seems as though your supporters need help supporting you. You may find it helpful to tell them they don’t have to come up with any solutions, or give you anything, or make you feel anything other than supported. All they need to say is that they love you and will support you in any way you see fit.

At the end of the day, nothing matters except that you know that you are not alone in your efforts to conceive. Knowing that you’re not alone can give you the strength to continue on your journey. You are not alone.
