April 23-29, 2017, is National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW), sponsored by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. This is a week to get involved, share your story, and help people better understand an issue that affects 1 in 8 couples.

Getting Involved During NIAW

There are a number of ways you can help spread the word during National Infertility Awareness Week. You can do your part in your local community or online, using various tools from RESOLVE.

Locally, you can hold events to thank those who’ve helped you on your fertility journey and welcome in anyone who might be facing similar problems. A rummage sale or dinner party can be used to raise funds for infertility awareness programs. You can even work with local fitness experts to donate class time and promote wellness.

Online, you can promote it by sending messages of support to those you know who are struggling with infertility. You can also share resources about family building options and infertility etiquette. Make sure to use the hashtags #NIAW and #ListenUp.

Sharing Stories For NIAW

If you’ve experienced fertility problems, you should know that your story has value. Sharing it with others lets them know that they are not alone. During National Infertility Awareness Week, you can share your story in many ways.

In addition to the resources and support you share online, you can also use your social media platforms to get your personal message out. Your words, combined with pictures or even video on sites like Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, can help so many others who are going through what you did.

If you wish to go into more depth about your experience, consider writing a blog post about it. RESOLVE is running a Bloggers Unite Challenge during NIAW. Anyone can submit their 500-word entry from April 23-29 for a chance to be featured as a guest writer on RESOLVE’s blog.

National Infertility Awareness Week is a time to let people know how many couples are affected by fertility problems and to spread the word of options available to treat them. Consider pitching in during NIAW and sharing your story.
